Dreaming About Editing

I’m back at it! I’ve sent out 5 query letters to agents and should hear back from most of them within a month’s time. (Fingers crossed I at least get personal rejections—or offers of representation—this time!)

Now that I am done editing the first book (for now) and waiting on query responses, I’m ready to jump back into revising book 2. Not just me, my subconscious too. 😅

I had a dream three nights ago where I was simultaneously myself and two of my characters, talking about a minor character that would have appeared in the story several chapters previous, except apparently I had deleted that character’s existence recently. Thus, my characters were asking about…Fabio? (Faio? Fbio? Idk, it was only four letters long in the dream’s manuscript but pronounced like Fabio) and I was trying to figure out how to inform them that he doesn’t exist anymore. Or perhaps I would just delete him from these pages too and they wouldn’t notice. But once they figure out I can control these things, what if they revolt or stop liking me? D: I woke up shortly after.

I took that as a sign that I need to get back into writing, but the next two days were busier than usual, and I had no time! Alas! I’m sorry, Selenia and Akiro! I swear, I’m on my way!

I know I had the dream because I deleted that subplot from the previous draft of book one, which included an entire character (Not Faio), though I didn’t delete him completely, as the main scene still exists, just in a different book where it makes more sense (unless I convince myself that’s not actually necessary either).

I love and miss having dreams about my books’ scenes and characters. Once, when I was writing my first draft of book one, I had a dream about the four main characters talking about something that led to two pieces of dialogue that I thought were so fun and striking that I had to include them in the book. I think a version of this is still in there to this day, surviving the revisions and edits of ten drafts. XD

Do you dream about your characters or worldbuilding in anyway? Do you dream about other people’s characters and stories?

The human race will never stop needing stories! Even when we go to sleep, our mind stays up to tell them. ❤ Sleep well tonight! (Practicing good sleep hygiene may make for better and more likely dreams.)

Edit: What a silly fear my subconscious had. In my waking life, my characters know all about what I can control. We’re all friends here. …Right? 😅😬

Edit edit: As I wait for agents to respond, I’m also ready for new beta reading projects! Go to my Beta Reading Service page for more info!
