We have a new school musical to perform and new actors to perform it! I hope they’re ready!
Develop your characters or play around with them in this new Character Scenario game! These tiny prompts are designed to spark your imagination and help you learn more about the characters you are writing. It’s also a great way to get out of a creative block. You can use them as writing prompts or simply talk it out with a friend to see what wacky stuff your characters get into.

School Musical
- 1 and 2 are director and stage manager, in charge of casting. Do they get along or will this be a long night for both of them?
- 5 was cast as the lead soprano. What were 1 and 2 thinking?
- 3 wrote the musical and wasn’t included in casting decisions. Oops?
- 6 was given the part with the most intricate choreography. How long will it take them to master a backflip and tap dancing?
- 4 and 5 are the show’s love interests. Are they prepared to kiss?
- 7 is in charge of choreography. Are they pleased to work with 6?
- 2 has had to repeat “don’t touch a prop if it isn’t your prop” at least seven times. Who is touching everyone’s props? Is it normal for 2 to actually care about this?
- 12 is in charge of special effects. Are they good at technology, paying attention, and being on time with cues? Do they have any special skills or ideas they can offer for special effects?
- 4 has the most lines to memorize. Is anyone helping 4 memorize their lines?
- 8, 9, and 10, are the background trio. How good is their harmonization? They’re gonna spend a lot of time together; how good is their chemistry?
- 10 is also 5’s understudy. What do they have in common that allowed for this? Who should really get the part?
- 1 and 3 are having a conversation. What’s it about?
- 11 is in charge of costumes, hair, and makeup. How good are they with fashion?
- 9 needs help with makeup. Are they comfortable with 11 doing that for them? Getting up close and personal all over their face?
- There is a long break in-between some special effect cues. What is 12 doing during this time?
- 8 has to catch 6 during one of the dance numbers. Is 8 strong enough to do it? Was 7 smart or cruel when making this decision? Does 6 trust 8?
- Hey, 4, how’s that ballad going that I only just told you about? Belting out all the right notes? By the way, can you cry on command?
- Crying at the end of their ballad is important to the story. If 4 can’t cry on command, does 1 have a plan to make things work?
- Who is having the most fun? Who is having the least? Is 5 able to hit that high c while wearing that corset in the final number?
- It’s Opening Night. Is this musical going to get a standing ovation or is the stage currently on fire?
