Be it live action or text based, to this day, she still loves pretending to be someone else doing something else, somewhere else. Bonus points if magic is involved. Actually, those are probably the only points. When life got too busy for friends to roleplay with her (and a neopets roleplay sparked an idea for a massive new world and a single character), she grabbed a random composition notebook and the nearest writing utensil (it was a sharpie D:) and started writing the first scene that interested her.
And thus, The Lost Elementalist series was born! Using its ultra super powers—*cough* Oh, sorry.
After falling in love with writing, N.K. had a hard time figuring out what career she’d like to pursue after high school beyond being a successful author. So she followed the highly talked about college path and obtained a B.A. in English with minors in Music Performance, Creative Writing, Philosophy, and Anthropology (and a buttload of student loan debt :’D). She also worked in publishing and editing for a semester with The Flints Hills Review, and is a former Writing Partner at Emporia State University’s Writing Center. Currently, she works as the librarian/media specialist at a high school library!
These days, she tries to stave off anxiety and depression by spending as much time as she can creating stories, characters, and worlds for others to someday find a home in too. She asserts that she just wants to create a place for a positive community among people and a light for someone to hold onto in their darkness, but her joy at hearing beta readers rage at cliffhangers or cry because of *spoilers* cannot be ignored. You might spot her controlling water in her cat form near a bunch of trees or, more likely, in a human-like form being very loud and obnoxious in public, generally having a good time. If you so desire to support her (I need money to go to writing conferences and conventions! D:) or her cat (Her name is Ryka and she’s an acrobat and trained vocalist! :D), buy her a ko-fi!

  1. N.K. Valek is a lifesaver! I contracted her to do the first book in my series and her suggestion, line editing and review was spot on. I went through her edited document and followed all her instructions and now the storyline flows and the Book is grammatically correct to the point where one more final editing should do the job.
    She went over and above our contract by adding helpful videos and tutorials that helped me with different areas of my book.
    I now have the confidence to apply what she taught/showed me to the other books in my series. If there was a term I could use that is above “highly recommend”…I would use it here.
